Vutomi Energy is proud to welcome Dr. Lerato Khumalo as a Board Member: ESG (Environment, Social, and Governance). With a PhD in Chemical Technology from the University of Pretoria and over 19 years of expertise in sustainability, she brings invaluable knowledge in climate change, ESG integration, and environmental management to our leadership team.
Dr. Khumalo currently serves as Manager: ESG & Climate Change at Exxaro, where she drives ESG strategy, climate change adaptation, air quality, and water management. Her deep understanding of global and national ESG policies, climate science, energy efficiency, and sustainability solutions positions her as a key player in shaping Africa’s energy transition.
Beyond her corporate role, Dr. Khumalo is a respected voice in climate change and ESG forums and believes that 'Sustainability is the responsibility for every one of us. We need to change our mindsets on natural resource conservation and preservation of the planet for current and future generations. In that way, we will secure a sustainable future for all'.
She has held notable industry leadership positions, including Vice Chairperson of the Industry Task Team on Climate Change, Co-Chair of the NBI Advisory Committee for Environment and Society, and a member of the Energy Council and BUSA (Business Unity South Africa) Climate Change Working Group. She also serves as an Advisory Board Member at Wits University’s Global Change Institute and advises the G100 South Africa.
